MESA’s website lauded Abdulhadi’s for “her deep commitment to Palestinian Studies, in relation to not only gender, sexuality, feminist, and queer studies, but also others.” The Canary Mission watchdog noted in a January 8 press release that Abdulhadi had attempted to hold a webinar featuring former Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) member Leila Khaled in 2020 on Zoom that was ultimately deplatformed. 

The complaint, which was filed by attorneys Gabriel Groisman and Arsen Ostrovsky, who heads the International Legal Forum on November 18, alleged that Berkeley Law had violated Title VI of the Civil Rights Act for failing to take action against several student groups who passed bylaws barring Zionist speakers from campus.

“The ugliness of antisemitism has revealed itself in many ways throughout our community and across the country in recent weeks. I condemn it, and we must make clear that such hate will not be tolerated. The conduct alleged in this case is despicable, especially coming during one of the most joyous times of the year for Jewish people. We will always stand up against such hatred and hold accountable those who commit hate crimes in Los Angeles County.”

The Beverly Hills Police Department (BHPD) announced in a press release that surveillance footage showed the suspect, Eric Brian King from Dallas, TX, throwing “objects at the menorah” as well as carving Nazi symbols into it.

The Los Angeles Times reported that the white supremacists were conducting Nazi salutes on the overpass, prompting District Attorney George Gascon to tweet that “#WhiteSupremacy is an intolerable cancer” and their “message is dangerous and cannot be normalized.”
